WEEK FOURTEEN - MAY 2002
Dinner is just too good.
Cheryl and I are very responsive parents. If Joshua starts to fuss, we generally pick him up. Not this evening though.
Cheryl made our family's favorite dinner - spare ribs. These aren't just any spare ribs, they are Cheryl's spare ribs. The meat just falls apart and melts in your mouth. Even the kids can't get enough. We sat down to enjoy this rare specialty, and sure enough, Joshua started to fuss. Cheryl and I looked at each other, looked at the baby in the swing, looked at each other again, and kept right on eating. These spare ribs were just too good. Joshua would just have to deal.
This lasted a few delicious minutes, and then my instincts (or guilt) took over and I picked him up. Our two older boys also kept looking at us, wondering why the heck we were letting him cry. Watching them gobble down their dinner though, I think they understood.
Drool man.
We have entered the teething phase. It seems like our entire house is covered with drool. Sometimes I'll let Joshua chew on my finger to sooth his teething, and dang! It hurts. In my office moms will complain to me that their infant bites them while nursing. I never really understood how bad this must feel (I still probably don't completely), but now I can imagine.
Wipe before you kiss.
I love picking Joshua up and giving him a nice big kiss. Well, today I had a big surprise. Not only did he have slobber all over his face, which was bad enough. He also had just spit up, and had milk curds all around his mouth. Needless to say, this wasn't the most pleasant kiss I've ever had. I'm gonna check him out from now on before showering him with kisses.
Precious sleep.
Is there anything in the world cuter than a sleeping infant? That's one thing I love about having Joshua sleep in our bed with us. I love to stare at him when I go to sleep, then again when I wake up in the morning.
