WEEK TWENTY-SIX - AUGUST 2002
Missing leg hair.
Joshua learned a major difference between men and women today. I already wrote about how he loves to pull my arm and leg hair. Well, today I watched as he methodically explored Cheryl's leg with his little pinching fingers and kept coming up empty handed. He figured it out after a few minutes, but it was fun to watch.
Head trauma.
This is always a fun milestone because Joshua can entertain himself longer in a sitting position. But I broke one of the cardinal rules of baby watching - never leave a new sitter-upper unattended.
I had just stepped away for a few seconds to grab the remote (Star Trek was about to start) and of course Joshua picked that moment to fall over. He was on carpet, so he wasn't hurt at all. But you would have thought that he suffered a major head trauma by the way Cheryl looked at me as she sat Joshua up again.
Well hey, Star Trek WAS starting.
Fair trade agreement.
I will often "trade" doing a job for holding the baby. If I'm cleaning up after dinner, Cheryl may say, "Here, I'll trade ya. You hold Joshua and I'll do the dishes," or "You hold the baby while I fold the laundry." I always figure I get the better end of the deal, and some days I'm sure Cheryl is happy just to be doing ANYTHING besides holding and nursing "Mr. Leech."
Tonight, however, Cheryl offered me a trade that was not even close to fair. I was sitting on the couch relaxing with my favorite Ben and Jerry's and Cheryl comes up with the baby and says, "Here, I'll trade ya!"
I guess an occasional trade like this is worth never having to do dishes and laundry.
