WEEK THIRTY-TWO - SEPTEMBER 2002
Sleeping through the night?
I asked Cheryl how the little guy has been sleeping lately (because, of course I am clueless). She gave me a puzzled look and said, "I GUESS he's sleeping thru the night, I'm not sure".

Every parent DREAMS of that first magical night when their baby sleeps for 8 hours uninterrupted. But we have kind of missed catching that milestone. So we think he MIGHT be sleeping through, but we don't know.

I guess it doesn't really matter. If he is waking and nursing, and Cheryl is oblivious, then that is just as good.

Cleaning my ears.
I don't have to bother cleaning out my earwax anymore. Joshua does if for me. He is fascinated with my ears. I'll hold him on my hip, and he'll just spend forever grabbing, pinching, and digging in my ears. He loves it. He tried to start a conversation with my ear, but so far to no avail.

I love this type of close attachment play. Some people may be reluctant to let their kids go scratching and pinching their various body parts, but I think that this one-on-one exploration really brings us closer.

I have also found that this type of activity is NOT fun when his nails are long! It only took one painful scratch to figure this out.

Prince of Thieves.
Joshua ALWAYS wakes up happy. He has never ONCE woken up crying. I think this is because he has always felt safe and comfortable while sleeping. He has a healthy sleep attitude. Life is good, there's nothing to fear. So when he wakes up, he just waits for us to come get him.

Because he is so happy, he is filled with snuggles. He's been this way since day one. He will rest his head against our chest or shoulder for several minutes and smile, smile, smile.

I decided that since Cheryl does all the night duty, she deserves to enjoy all these snuggles for herself. So I usually let her get him when he wakes. Or if I get him, I'll hand him off quickly before all the snuggles run out.

So, today when she brought him downstairs, he decided to reach out for me. I naturally took him into my arms and he proceeded to snuggle with me. So Cheryl says, "You thief. Robber. Snuggle stealer!" The ONE time I get his snuggles, and suddenly I'm a thief. And I didn't even take them. Joshua chose to give them to me.

These morning snuggles are so awesome that I think I'll start doing some more night duty so I can earn my share of the morning loot.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Whew!

I guess Cheryl can keep all the morning snuggles to herself.
