WEEK 52 - FEBRUARY 2003
Our child is weird.
We have a family tradition. At every child's first birthday, we take a trip to the ice cream store for baby's first taste of ice cream. Child number one sucked it down in five minutes. In fact, he "nursed" on it so continuously that his whole chin was bright red from the cold. Child number two took his time, but eventually downed the whole thing.

Now Joshua comes along, and we were all excited about this grand tradition. I couldn't wait to see the look on his face as he savored the taste of his first ice cream. We had 2 cameras and the video camera all set to go.

Now, what child doesn't like ice cream? Apparently, our child! He took probably five licks, and then wanted nothing to do with it.

I guess that's what happens when all you eat for the first year is warm milk and fruits and vegetables. I shouldn't complain. If he doesn't like ice cream, more power to him.

Our child is REALLY weird.
Ok, so I could understand the ice cream thing since it's so cold, but who the heck doesn't like cake? Once again, we have adorable pictures of children number one and two covered in icing and cake from head to toe and smeared all over the place.

We had a huge birthday party with all our friends, and we looked forward to Joshua destroying his first piece of cake like all normal kids will.

I just don't understand why he doesn't like sugary, creamy, goopy frosting and cake? Have we ruined our kid forever by feeding him only healthy things? Next thing you know, he won't like Oreo cookies or chocolate milk. Is he doomed to a life of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fish? Oh, the challenges we are faced with! Whatever will we do?

Next year he gets carrot cake for his birthday.
