What about cross-dressing?

Don't panic when your four-year-old son puts on mommy's lipstick and high heels and your daughter dons daddy's pants and suspenders. Allow some gender bending when it comes to cross-dressing. Laugh and enjoy it. This stage of curiosity and make-believe soon passes once the school-age child learns gender- appropriate dress. In one family the three-and-a-half-year-old daughter suddenly became interested in being a boy in every way she could—clothing, male identity in play, saying she'd be a daddy when she grew up. This all started when her baby brother was born. Seeking reassurance that this was normal, her mother asked the pediatrician if she should do something. She was already taking away male action hero dolls. The doctor unfortunately worried this mother needlessly, giving her articles on sexual dysfunction in children. All she needed to do was spend more time with her daughter to reassure her of her position in the family.
