Updates from March 2006
March 30 - New Breastfeeding Medicine Journal Launched
The Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine has long been a primary resource of breastfeeding research and information for physicians and families worldwide. This month the Academy has launched their official medical journal, Breastfeeding Medicine. This is a scientific, peer-reviewed journal written by physicians, for physicians. The Sears have long been members of the Academy, and are thrilled to see the science of breastfeeding become available to doctors everywhere through this fantastic new publication.
March 30 - Florida Legislators Try to Ban High Fructose Corn Syrup from Schools
Law-makers in Florida are trying to rid their schools of the most common sweetener used in foods today. They site research that shows HFCS contributes to diabetes and obesity. Eliminating (or at least reducing) this super-sweet sugar from school snacks and lunches, while quite an undertaking, would probably have a fantastic benefit to the long-term health of Florida children. I know our state of California is leading the way in banning soda from school campuses. It would be wonderful to see all states follow suit in getting high fructose corn syrup away from our nation’s children.
