Medications & Pregnancy
One of the main features of our newest book, The Healthy Pregnancy Book (Little Brown, Due date: September 24, 2013), is we emphasize some exciting Nobel Prize research showing how mothers can make many of their much-needed internal medicines themselves. Yes, you are a walking pharmacy, making most of the medicines you’re going to need. Yet sometimes you will need prescription medicines, which obviously need to be taken more cautiously because of the effects of the medicine on the little person inside you. Also, during pregnancy it’s doubly important to practice the pills-skills model of self-care: learning the skills that help your body make its own medicines to lessen the need for prescription medicines.
